Board Nominee Biographies

Florian Weigand (incumbent re-running):

My family and I have been members of the Olney Mill Pool for over 20 years. I have enjoyed watching my three children grow up and participate on the Otter’s Swim Team, volunteering to help the team each summer, and now even working at the pool. In addition to the swim team, I have also volunteered over the years with my boy’s baseball and basketball teams. The Olney Mill Swim Club has provided my family with friendships and fun and I would like to continue as a board member to further support our pool community. As a CPA and financial audit professional, I feel my knowledge and expertise would benefit the Club and Board. Thank you for your consideration.

Michael Johnson(incumbent re-running):

I am excited to announce that I am running for another term on the Olney Mill Swim Club Board. My
family has been a member of the pool since 2015, and as our three children have grown, the pool has
become an even bigger part of our summers. We now have two children participating on the swim
team, and I continue to appreciate the strong sense of community that makes Olney Mill such a great
place for our families.
Over the past two years, I have enjoyed serving on the Board and becoming more involved in the
maintenance and operations of the pool. I have worked closely with our pool management company to
coordinate maintenance needs, address issues as they arise, and help make sure the facility is operating
smoothly throughout the season. My involvement has ranged from taking care of smaller repairs and
day-to-day issues to helping coordinate larger projects, including the installation of our new slide this
past summer.
I enjoy the hands-on side of serving on the Board and helping identify and solve problems before they
impact our members. If re-elected, I look forward to continuing to support the maintenance and
improvement of our facilities while helping ensure Olney Mill remains a place that our members and
families can enjoy for many years to come.
Thank you for considering me for another term on the Olney Mill Swim Club Board.

Michael Marcell (incumbent re-running):

I am Mike Marcell and I am re-running for an OMSC board position.  I have been a member of the Olney Mill community for over 40 years, and attended Greenwood Elementary School, Farquhar Middle School, and Sherwood High School.  We have three children and have been members of the Olney Mill Swim Club since our 9th grader was in kindergarten.

I have served as a coach for my sons’ baseball and soccer teams through the Olney Boys and Girls Club and have also held leadership positions through the National Capital Area Boy Scouts, for Pack 1074 and Troop 264 respectively.

My family and I have enjoyed our time as members at OMSC and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with other board members to continue to provide a great summer experience for all in our pool community.

As a partner in a construction management consulting firm, my knowledge and expertise in program planning and scheduling will serve the board well as we evaluate and prioritize future projects to continue to enhance our pool facility as well as meet the needs of our varied membership.

Michael Valentin (incumbent re-running):

Hello everyone!

My name is Mike Valentin, and I am running for another two-year term on the Board of Directors at Olney Mill Swim Club (OMSC).

For the past two years, my primary role has been supporting club operations through the lens of membership and our MemberSplash platform. This includes handling general inquiries, managing waitlist requests, processing new and cancelled memberships, and keeping our community connected.

Additionally, I led our ice cream sales analysis and pricing overhaul, assisted with the physical demolition of the old slide, and supported various other projects to keep our pool running smoothly.

As an Olney Mill native, I returned to my roots after college and a few years in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area. I currently live in Olney Mill with my wife, two daughters, two dogs, and two hermit crabs.

For the past twenty years, I have worked in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) as a Paraeducator, Special Educator, and interim Administrator. Today, I support high schools across the district through the Division of Specialized Support Services.

I have countless fond memories of growing up at OMSC, and it has been a joy to create new memories here with my family over our five years as members and my two years on the Board.

I am eager to continue serving our community, supporting our local families, and helping build lasting traditions at Olney Mill Swim Club. I would deeply appreciate your vote!

Thank you for your support.

Shannon Demetrakis (incumbent re-running):

My name is Shannon Demetrakis and I am running for a second term on the board. For the past two years, I have served as Secretary, keeping track of the meeting minutes. This past year, I also took over the ice cream operations. I have enjoyed helping at social events, such as the picnics, Fiesta Night, Crab Feast, Kid’s Bingo, and Teen Night. My older daughters swim for the Otters and we are very invested in the continued success of the pool.

Having spent summers swimming, life guarding, and coaching at other area pools, I have experience with the ins and outs of running a successful pool. I hope to continue to support to club’s mission, improvement efforts, and strong collaboration with the swim team.
